LONDON USA 1961 PRESSED BY DECCA IN THE UK 2E / 2E BLUEBACK NM / EX+
It is a perverse fact that most audiophile collectors still seem to look upon London CS pressings as poor relations to their favoured British counterparts on Decca SXL. Despite the considerable literature on the subject - much of it generated on Arthur Salvatore's high-end audio website, and despite Mr Salvatore's spirited and convincing defence of them - Londons are still not valued as they might be.
In any comparative discussion on their respective merits, I would advance this CS as quite the equal of the UK version (SXL 2285, listed elsewhere on this site). Audiophiles may note that this Decca pressed London - the earliest pressing that I have ever seen - yields nothing sonically to the SXL. Both have 2E / 2E lacquers, but the London has mother / stamper codes 1 / U and 1 / B, as against the 1 / C and 1 / U of the SXL. Based on Decca's BUCKINGHAM stamper code, the London emerges as the earlier pressing and it sounds every bit as vivid and exciting as the SXL.
