MUSSORGSKY
Modest Mussorgsky - (1839–1881) Russian composer, Romantic Period
Mussorgsky was one of the most original and influential members of the group of nationalist composers known as “The Five” or “The Mighty Handful.” He is best known for his bold, expressive style that broke away from Western European traditions in favor of a distinctly Russian voice in classical music. His most famous works include Pictures at an Exhibition, the opera Boris Godunov, and the tone poem Night on Bald Mountain.
