The recording of this Beethoven symphony cycle took 4 years to complete and the records reflect the label changes Decca made during the period. Accordingly, symphonies 3 & 9, which launched the series, were published in ED1 format: symphonies 4 & 6 in ED2 format: symphonies 1 & 2 and 5 & 8 in ED3 format and the last to be recorded, symphony 7, in narrow band format (ED4).
