DAVID MUNROW

David Munrow (1942–1976) was a pioneering British musician, conductor, and early music specialist who played a key role in popularizing medieval, renaissance, and baroque music in the 20th century. Best known as the founder of the Early Music Consort of London, Munrow introduced audiences to a wide range of historical instruments and authentic performance practices, making early music accessible and engaging. His recordings, BBC broadcasts, and film soundtracks—such as The Six Wives of Henry VIII—cemented his reputation as a transformative figure in the revival of early music in Britain. Though his life was tragically cut short at just 33, David Munrow’s influence endures, inspiring generations of musicians and listeners to explore the rich history of early European music.
