Joseph Maurice Ravel (1875 – 1937) French composer, pianist and conductor. Ravel's compositions include the ballets Mother Goose and Daphnis & Chloe, the two Piano Concertos, the operas L'Heure Espagnole and L'Enfant et les Sortileges, many songs, a string quartet and Rapsodie Espagnole. However the one movement orchestral piece Bolero, composed in 1928, and described by Ravel as 'a seventeen minute piece for orchestra without music' remains his most popular work.
