Lyrita
LYRITA is a British classical music record label, mainly specialising in the works of British composers both famous and relatively unknown. Accordingly the giants of English music, Elgar, Holst and Vaughan Williams stand quite happily in the Lyrita catalogue beside the likes of Butterworth, Moeran, Finzi and Bax. Many works had their first recording on this pioneering label, which hi-fi guru Arthur Salvatore regards as the best sounding series on LP.
Across the 100 or so issues published by the company it may be claimed that Lyrita did British music proud and music lovers surely owe them a debt of gratitude.
The record labels bear the name Lyrita Recorded Edition and Lyrita Stereo Classical records have catalogue code SRCS and monos RCS. Lyrita LPS were pressed by Decca up until 1979. Latterly some issues were pressed by Nimbus and some by Phonogram
