SXL 6000 NARROW BAND COLLECTION - Part 2 ( 108 LPs )
Part 2 of this selection from the 6000 series catalogue runs from SXL 6323 to SXL 6507, so we have now reached the stage where Decca abandoned the wide band label style (SXL 6448) for narrow band. For those bemused by Decca labelography - aren't we all - I will set out the facts regarding the demise of the ungrooved (or flat) wide band label known as ED3 and its supplanting by the narrow band label (sometimes called ED4).
The first ED3 was SXL 6377 (Pavarotti) and the last was SXL 6448 (Tchaikovsky 1812). Because Decca often kept recordings 'in the can' - despite allocating them a catalogue number - their delayed release can create confusion among collectors, as in the case of the label change from ED3 to narrow band. The first narrow band issue is SXL 6435 (Delius) and the next is SXL 6442 (Strauss), so the original issues between are ED3.
From SXL 6449 onwards the 6000 series is entirely narrow band.
