GEORGE SZELL

 

George Szell (1897 – 1970) Hungarian-born conductor and composer, widely regarded as one of the greatest 20th-century orchestral conductors. He's best known for his meticulous technique and transformative work with the Cleveland Orchestra, which he turned into one of the world’s finest ensembles.  Szell made many landmark recordings of classical and early romantic repertoire but also championed contemporary works.
