Gidon Kremer, a Latvian violinist, became famous for his active support of modern music and adventurous repertoire. His interpretations of composers Schnittke and Piazzolla expanded the violin’s role in contemporary culture. Kremer also founded ensembles and music festivals to promote innovation in classical music.
