David Oistrakh was a Soviet violinist celebrated for his rich tone and expressive musicianship. He was especially admired for interpretations of Russian composers  Shostakovich and Prokofiev, both of whom wrote works for specifically for him. David Oistrakh remains one of the most respected violinists of the 20th century and left a considerable legacy of fine recordings.
