Maria Callas (1923–1977) also known as La Divina was a Greek-American soprano who became one of the most influential opera singers of the 20th century. Callas was celebrated for her remarkable vocal range, dramatic intensity and expressive artistry. Bellini’s Norma, Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, Verdi’s La Traviata and Puccini’s Tosca were among her favourite roles and were memorable for her considerable acting ability.
