NIKOLAUS HARNONCOURT

 

Nikolaus Harnoncourt (1929–2016) was an Austrian conductor and cellist, and a pioneering figure in the early music movement. He founded the Concentus Musicus Wien in 1953 and championed historically informed performance using period instruments, reshaping how audiences experienced the works of composers such as Bach, Monteverdi, Mozart, and Beethoven.
