Jacques Offenbach (1819-1880) German-born French composer of nearly 100 operettas, famous for their catchy tunes and satirical, humorous nature, which often lampooned well known individuals. His most popular works are La Belle Helene, Orpheus in the Underworld, La Vie Parisienne and his one serious opera, The Tales of Hoffmann.
