Recorded - like Ashkenazy's Chopin cycle - over many years, this is a hybrid collection. The project began in 1977 and the first 7 concertos were issued in analogue sound bearing the familiar SXL prefix. The first to appear, SXL 6881 is a UK pressing, all the others in the series are Dutch pressings, Decca having moved the operation abroad in the interim.

In common with the Uchida cycle, it was decided not to include Mozart's juvenalia*, so the survey begins with Concerto No. 8 K246 and ends with Concerto No. 27 K595.

*Ashkenazy had recorded Concerto No. 6 K238 in 1968 with Schmidt-Isserstedt and the LSO on SXL 6353 and this LP will be included as a bonus
