BEETHOVEN: FIVE OVERTURES VANDERNOOT / BERLIN PHILHARMONIC SXLP 20031
SXLP 20031 BEETHOVEN: OVERTURES Leonore No. 3 / Egmont / Coriolan / Prometheus / Fidelio ANDRE VANDERNOOT / BERLIN PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA
EMI UK 1968 recorded in 1960 Flipback sleeve NM / EX+
Never issued on ASD, this Concert Classics pressing was its first appearance in the UK
Interestingly, within months of each other, EMI contracted the Berlin Philharmonic to record Leonore No. 3 with three different conductors, Kempe on ASD 336, Cluytens on ASD 267 and Vandernoot, mysteriously left in the can. EMI may have had second thoughts about its release on the full price label because the choice of overtures is identical to the Kempe recording and this may have seemed not commercially viable.
